On 19 June 2002 over 12,000 people descended on the UK Parliament for the world's biggest mass lobby of politicians on trade. Over 300 UK Members of Parliament were lobbied about how developing countries are being ripped off and exploited by unfair trade rules. The event was the latest landmark in the global movement for trade justice.

The Trade Justice Movement calls for radical reform of the rules of international trade to favour the world's poorest communities and safeguard the environment. OneWorld TV covered the action and the footage here starts our new trade justice coverage. Come back for more footage in the following weeks and add your video on trade.

Western countries want developing countries to trade their way out of poverty. But with many international trade rules weighted against them, how easy is it? The Trade Trap looks at how Ghana, one of Africa's major trading nations, struggles with the complex rules and requirements of trading in today's world markets.

Augustine Adongo of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) shows us the difficulties companies have in the face of cheap foreign imports and non-tariff barriers put up by the major trading blocs. The Trade Trap explores the impact of an inequitable world trading system on the pineapple, maize, banana and fish smoking industries of Ghana.

'Fairtrade Fortnight' runs from 3rd-16th March 2003 and in the UK will comprise 4,000 events aimed at encouraging shoppers to try Fairtrade foods. Fairtrade was set up in the early 1990s as a trading partnership that offers better trading conditions to small farmers in developing countries.
