n this interview with Sumaúma, Ian Angus talks about the ideas set out in Facing the Anthropocene and explains the origin of his thought. The interview took place in late March 2024, shortly after the Sub-commission on Quaternary Stratigraphy, part of the International Union of Geological Sciences, rejected the proposal to formally endorse the idea that we are in a new geological epoch, the Anthropocene. The term, which derives from the Greek word anthropos, or human, is already broadly used by scientists and environmentalists to designate an era when human activities interfere directly with Earth’s structure and speed up climate change.
